An Aurora alderman urges adopting updated data center zoning standards immediately so no regulatory gap opens when the temporary moratorium expires.
"together tonight with a clean resolution and to pass whatever we need to and um uh making sure that we do not have the data centers going into an extension on the moratorium because should that happen, in that 30 day period like I mentioned before, cuz this isn't our first time we've been up here. I'm not going to rehash all the previous stuff because we've talked about that too much"

A homeowner living adjacent to CyrusOne's Aurora campus describes construction and operational impacts on bordering residences.
"Uh we've been living in that home now for 19 years. In 2010 when CME put that first warehouse, repurposed that first warehouse for a data center, it was of no problem to the neighborhood. Uh the generators would run every now and then. There'd be a little bit of noise, but it didn't take long to get that uh resolved. There was no other other noise that was bothering any of the homeowners."

"Primary air construction permits issued by the Illinois EPA Bureau of Air authorize hundreds of megawatts of fossil fuel Tier 2 diesel backup generators at DCEO tax exempt data center campuses across the Chicago metro area, while PJM Interconnection and ComEd capacity auction filings document acute Northern Illinois load growth and capacity price spikes that prompted Aurora's March 24, 2026 zoning and electricity tax ordinance."
