Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency adopts new landfill diversion policies in response to massive hyperscale data center construction waste.
"that increase, the biggest change was waste coming from data center construction. Load after load included recyclable things like clean wood pallets and scrap metal, but cardboard was the biggest concern. >> Cardboard has been banned from our landfill since 1999. And the way that the ban is written is if the load contains cardboard, their tipping fee doubles. And so, they were getting fined for it, but it wasn't slowing it down. So, we really realized we had to take another step."
